Sunday with the BFFs

Last Sunday, after I had dropped by CCP until after Kudeta had began the matinee show, I met up with Tin and went to the Fort together to meet up with Carlo and Micah before going to VCF's service. They've been going there together for a few weeks already, and joining them was a good opportunity to be with them and attend a good church service as well.

Being the daughter of a devout Catholic that had almost become a priest if he hadn't gotten married, I can still count the number of times I've been to a Christian service. But I always enjoyed and felt good every time I attended one. So of course, I didn't hesitate when I decided to join the BFFs at VCF.

We found Hilary outside the cafeteria, and she told us to go on ahead and grab some seats. She followed a few minutes after we did, sitting in the row in front of us beside a couple of her friends. Hahaha, after the worship, Hil introduced us to the girl she was sitting next to. She first introduced Tin and Micah because they were the ones nearest to her, and when I turned to face the girl, I realized that I knew her already. It was Chiko! Then I turned my head another way and found Nica sitting a couple of rows in front of us. My goodness, it's so good to find friends that I haven't seen in ages!

After the service, Tin, Carlo, Micah and I walked to North Park for dinner. Major camwhoring galore, hahaha. After we had stuffed ourselves, we then headed over to Krispy Kreme for dessert. I haven't used the GC that GR had given us last December (thank you again, GR!), so we decided to use it for some sugar fix. Unfortunately we didn't get to finish the whole dozen, so I had to take half of it home.

Yesterday, Tad and I finally got to watch Sweeney Todd. I've read a whole bunch of reviews about the film, ranging from it's music (hello, Sondheim) to Tim Burton's treatment to Johnny Depp (well, because, hello, he's Johnny Depp, hahaha!) Hmmm... what can I say... I guess I have to go with Robbie's review. Haha, and the blood, my goodness. I didn't really mind all the blood spurting out of people's throats, but it really was a little too bright. The red popped out everywhere. I guess that's how Burton wanted to emphasize all the blood and gore, ahehe.

Took a Timezone break after the movie, and found Mimay and Jenny at Starbucks after that. Mims, congrats for getting your actor for the role of Frank! Hahaha. Can't wait for the shoot.

spur of the moment... "Tuesdays" on a Saturday

This afternoon (technically yesterday), I had no plans of going anywhere except bum around CCP even though there were no supertitles during the matinee show. For the most part, I just wanted to be there early because it was exactly four months since Tad and I first got together. After a quick lunch before his call time, I had told him that if I wasn't watching the matinee, I would probably park my bum on the couch in the Main Theater lobby and read the book I brought with me, or take a nap.

I was just standing around the entrance of the Batute shortly after the house had opened, and I saw Minette come over. She said hello and then told me that she was going to watch Rep's Tuesdays with Morrie  with Carlo and their friend PA that very afternoon. Rawr, I was dying with envy because it's the show's closing weekend already, and I didn't get to see it. And if ever, I had planned to see it Sunday (technically today) before I had to meet with Tin. Minette suddenly invited me to come along with her, but I told her that I couldn't because of "personal reasons." But after a quick text, I was suddenly in a cab with her, on our way to Onstage Theater, Greenbelt. Hahaha, hey, it was only for an hour and 45 minutes, I thought. We'll get back by the time Kudeta's matinee show is over.

Carlo, who had no idea that I was going with Minette, had already bought tickets for the 3 of them, so I had to fall in line to buy my own ticket. Because we were still at the end of the line, there was this lady who approached a bunch of us (me, Minette, and the 2 girls in front of us whom the lady thought that we were also with). Just my luck, as it turned out, that lady had two extra tickets with her that she was willing to give away for free, because two of the people she was supposed to go with had cancelled at the last minute. It was in the same section as the tickets that Carlo had bought, so I took one of the tickets, while one of the girls in front of us took the other one. To that anonymous lady, thank you!

I had read Tuesdays with Morrie a few years back when a friend of mine from YFC-CSB (was that Moi or another guy friend?) had lent me his copy of the book. I loved the book that I read it twice, and it moved me to tears both times. Same goes with the play. It made me laugh with all the witty lines, it made me cry, and it made me laugh and cry at the same time. I loved every minute of it.

After the show, we had a quick dinner at Oody's (with me checking the time all the while). Hahaha, because we had dinner in Greenbelt, I let Tad use my food stub for dinner. Anyway, after eating, Minette and I hopped on a cab and flew back to CCP. Hahaha, the show was at 8pm, and we got there a few minutes past seven. Hauled the projector and laptop from the TP office, and I managed to set up and focus in record time. I guess the shirt Sir Jay had gave me totally fit me. "If it weren't for the last minute, nothing would get done." Hahaha.

Got to meet Tad's friends, Kathe, Ana and Tec (sp?) after the show. We got to have some coffee time with them before heading home. Hehe, those girls remind me of Rosa, Iam and myself. Or even Nikki, Misch and Mimay, in a way. Hope we get to hang out with them again longer.

Rawr, I haven't seen Sweeney Todd yet. A lot of people have been raving about it. Saw Alvin and the Chipmunks already though. Pretty corny with all the "We're family" stuff, but still cute. Heck, I was a big fan of those chipmunks as a kid, and they still look adorable. Saw it alone last Wednesday, as I had no one to drag with me, so I managed to get in a few games of Percussion Master right after the movie, hahaha. By the time I was already on the way home, I had realized that I had forgotten that that day was the annual Daisy Avellana tribute show in CCP. And I missed it. Darn it.

Off to bed. Tomorrow's a different day. Yay.

something I miss

Was exchanging text messages with Mimay yesterday about her thesis, plus we were also chatting over YM last night about it. Hahaha, of course, being the "superfriend" that I had dubbed myself as, I sort of drafted myself to get involved in the shoot. Yay. She got Jenny as one of her actors, and we're still hoping to get a good male actor.

Then somewhere during the conversation, Mimay had asked if we wanted to do Peter Wilson's Nemesis this March. We were supposed to do it last May, but a lot of things fell through at the last minute, myself included. So anyway, I said sure, I want to do it. It was an interesting piece, even if it's sort of tough. Hopefully after Mims gets to talk to her professor, this whole thing will finally push through. I wonder who she's really getting as the male actor, though, hahahaha!

I was also chatting with Minette last night, and I had mentioned that I miss acting. Then she asked if I plan to take another workshop this year, and she gave me a bit of news about this summer's workshops under TP. I can't wait.

this past weekend

I should've gone to CCP earlier instead of killing time in Netopia last Friday, hahaha. By the time I arrived at the TP office, there was a big meeting of the staff plus the Actors Company, so I couldn't really barge in there to get Ms. Yvette's laptop and the LCD projector. It was already 15 minutes before seven when the meeting had adjourned, so I rushed in, grabbed the laptop and projector, and sped towards the theater.

I was in quite a panic, so I didn't get to setup the projector well. The house had already opened and the laptop still couldn't detect the darn projector. So when did the supertitles start? When it was already 15 minutes into the second scene, hahahaha. Even though I finally got the supertitles up and running, it was comforting when Minette had offered to let me use her brand new laptop for the Saturday evening show.

Saturday was day one of the Cinemalaya auditions. I was having second thoughts about trying out. Ended up just staying and hanging around with Cindy, Gino and Dax while they waited and waited for their turn. I ended up getting bored sitting around at the top of the stairs, so Gino and I caught caught up with the matinee of Kudeta. We arrived a few minutes before the end of the first act and sat in the gallery, then we transferred to downstairs to the first row next to Major for the second act. Gino then left after Tad and Riki's shootout scene to go back up to the auditions while I stayed and finished the show.

During dinner, Paulo immediately handed me Minette's laptop. Found Minette with the projector right after I had eaten, and immediately went back to the theater to set it up, just in case I screw up the settings again. By the way, Mang Roger had transferred my post next to Chynna, yay. At least that way, I won't get trampled on by audience members. Hahaha, talk about brand new. Minette hadn't even taken off the plastic covering of the laptop, hahahaha. And to my relief, the setup only took a few minutes. I had the supertitles up and running, and had time to get coffee, let Riki run through his speech during the execution scene (he always gets the numbers wrong), and say hello to Carlo, Iam, Ge and Rosa in the lobby.

It was a pretty good show, and the audience was pretty receptive. Hahaha, I think I even caught Rosa as the only one laughing during one very lame punchline, hehehe. My clique pretty much enjoyed the show, yay. Haha, Rosa had claimed that I had "perfect timing," because after I had returned the laptop and projector to Minette and found them in the lobby, they wanted to have a photo taken with Chrome, who was already surrounded by "fans." I guess they were too shy to ask Tad or Chrome himself, so I immediately pulled him to one side for Iam and Rosa's photo op.

OK, so I finally decided to try out for Cinemalaya yesterday. One regret was that I should've auditioned the day before, hahaha. Oh well. Because I managed to sign up early, I got to finish up early and got to catch Kudeta's matinee. Sat next to direk Floy half the time, all the while listening and exchanging side comments, hahaha.

After the show, the cast and crew went off to Icebergs for dinner, courtesy of Sir Floy. Because our table was so long, our side decided to cook things up a little bit, thanks to the Lollipops (Tad, Riki and Chrome) plus Tito Mario. HAHAHAHA! Then before people started leaving, it was time for Laly, Lili and Popsy (yes, still the very same notorious trio) to put Sir Floy in the hot seat. That interview was hilarious, hahaha! And thanks to Russell's camera, we all got it on tape. Thanks for dinner, Sir Floy!

I wonder what's next when Kudeta closes. Darn it, I'm still hoping for that next project to push through. I doubt that anyone will tap my shoulder for EJ.

I haven't seen a movie in ages. I want to watch Sweeney Todd. And maybe Alvin and the Chipmunks, hahaha.

trio sushi party

Just killing time here in Netopia UM before I head off to CCP.

Our trio had made plans to go out to dinner on Wednesday night. We had initially planned on going to Chelsea in Serendra, but because Rosa was concerned about the traffic she will encounter from her office to the Fort, we decided to have dinner in ATC instead.

Met up with Rosa in ATC while waiting for Iam (who had said that she'll be arriving before 9 o'clock). Walked around, window shopped, and when it was about half past eight, we decided to go get seats at Omakase, the Japanese restaurant we ate in before Rosa had left for Switzerland almost exactly a year ago.

Of course, last year, we had made the mistake of ordering the JSC platter plus one rice bowl for each of us. My golly, we didn't get to finish everything. Lesson learned, so when Rosa and I went ahead while waiting for Iam, we decided to order the same JSC platter, plus the spicy tuna salad Iam had suggested. Ahehehe, what Rosa and I had thought was that the salad can only be good for one person, so we got 3 orders of the salad, plus miso soup. Wahahaha, we still couldn't finish the food! But I love the salad. I wonder what we'll end up ordering and not finishing next time, hahaha!

By the way, I recently found out that there's a Filipina in the US tour of Avenue Q. Hahaha, I've been a fan of Jennie Kwan since California Dreams, and I discovered (still being the closet Dreams fan that I am) that she's a swing in the cast, and had already played Christmas Eve. Coolness.

Still have too much time to kill right now. Maybe I'll just head over to Harbour Square with the new book I bought.

different routine

After two years at Atlantis, it's about time to pick up from where I left off in life. First priority is to do all things necessary to graduate and earn my degree. Hahaha, I remember a couple of friends joke that I had resigned to become a full-time girlfriend, as they had seen me several times in the past week in CCP during Kudeta's tech week. Well, there's that as well. I'm still getting used to all the changes in my daily routine.

Before the new year began, Minette hired me as Kudeta's supertitling operator. Well, at least there's still some dough coming in, right? Sometime during the tech week, I also received a text message from an acquaintance that I had met during last year's Avenue Q auditions, saying that he had recommended me as an assistant stage manager for an upcoming event. My oh my, what a way to start the year. I hope there won't be any schedule conflicts, just in case they do hire me.

Holy kamote, during Kudeta's open DTR last Thursday, I immediately met a little mishap. Near the end of the first act, the darn AVR overloaded, shutting off the LCD projector that was connected to the laptop I was using, sending a little panic to the audience because the obvious smell of something burning filled the Batute theater. Waah. Show must go on. Even though we found another outlet for the projector, I discontinued it during the second act because my translation was still a bit rusty, specially during Chrome's monologue. Well, at least the opening night show went very well. Ahehe, good opening show, lousy second show? Not really. It just skipped the Saturday matinee and carried over to the evening show, just when there are critics and big theater enthusiasts in the crowd. Pfft.

[edit]

I just had to include this, specially because Rosa had brought it up. Sometime before the Saturday evening show (right after the house had opened), I left the theater to go to the bathroom, then went back to my post. While sitting on the steps and talking to Kuya Jerry and Joms, I realized that I felt something weird about my pants. When I put my hand to touch my left back pocket, there it was. My pants had ripped at the seam of the entire left back pocket. Oh no, not another pants episode. Laughing it off, I simply covered it with my jacket (which left me freezing inside the super-cold Batute theater if it weren't for the heat of the projector and laptop) and texted Rosa and Iam. Both said the same reply: "What is it with you and ripped pants?" I guess they were recalling the time when I was strolling through the mall and discovered that my favorite black pants had ripped at the crotch, HAHAHA.

Yes, I just had to include this "Hogi moment."

[/edit]

Haha, even though the English supertitles were only meant for the evening shows, I still went to CCP yesterday so I can watch the Sunday matinee from the gallery. Riki played Lieutenant Chan that day, and there were some instances that he would look in my direction to make me laugh. I did not want to laugh or make him laugh because it would ruin his performance, but I suddenly gave up and started giggling by myself like the loon that I really am. Wahaha, caught him laughing as well during his scene with Tito Mario and Tad. Oops.

After the matinee show, quick dinner at Jollibee for a whole bunch of us (thanks for the free dessert, Russ!) then the AC were off to Mulan rehearsals (they have a special show in Ateneo tomorrow). Because I didn't want to go home yet, I ended up hanging out and talking with Je outside the conference room while waiting for their rehearsal to end. And thanks to him, he gave me an idea as to where I can go for an out-of-town vacation (finally!) this summer.

Went shopping with my mom this afternoon. Basically we were on the quest for the perfect umbrella, which we immediately found in 10 minutes, so we ended up window shopping for shoes and bags. Haha, I ended up buying a pretty canvas bag in the department store while Mom couldn't decide on anything. While we were walking around the mall, we found a sale in one of the stores, and I finally found THE blue jacket I was looking for. It was on sale at 60% off! YAY!

One more thing that I'm busy with this year is my brother's wedding. Holy kamote. At least we got a whole bunch of things already figured out.

first update of the year

My goodness, I'm been slacking off on my blogging, hahaha. I stopped writing as frequently as before ever since I was bombarded with lots of things to do before 2007 had ended. So just to update...

Saturday, December 29, 2007

Hogi Hall get together at Rosa's house. There were lots of excuses to throw the get together. First was Rosa's homecoming after a year in Switzerland, it was also the day of Seph's birthday, plus it was a post-Christmas/pre-New Year reunion of our clique. Because it was a potluck thing, Tad had came over to my house before Kudeta rehearsals so he could help me whip up something for that evening. We came up with Paolo's recipe for tuna pasta. And for some pulutan that will match the sisig, Tad made his longganisa with mushrooms and added an extra zing to it. Too bad we forgot to buy some young corn when we went shopping that morning.

After Tad had left, Aris had picked up Iam and me and drove us to Rosa's house. One by one, people had started arriving while most of us played pusoy and munched on nachos with salsa and bread with pesto. Pretty soon we had discovered that most of us had brought pasta. There were at least 4 kinds of pasta on the table, hahaha! Holy kamote, there was a lot of food that it was as if we were going to eat there for an entire week. We also had yummy chocolate fondue that Rosa, Iam and I had prepared in the kitchen (cutting up apples and bananas) and dining room (just watching the chocolate melt).

It was always a welcome sight to see the barkada. There was Rosa, Iam, Aris, PJ, Seph, Mon, Josh, Gonx, Paco, and May who was back from Turkey! RIght after the fondue was done, Aris, Iam, Mon and I picked up Tad from Mount McDo and finally the gang was complete for the night. Talked the night away ranging from the mundane, trivial to the pa-deep and serious topics. And thanks to Rosa, I got addicted to Mudshake, hahaha. My golly, we talked and talked until the sun rose, literally.

New Year's Eve. Just a pretty quiet day, then Tad had come over (Dad had invited him for New Year's Eve) and he was our designated cook for the steak that night, hahaha. After an evening of fireworks and Mom's banging of drums, it was time to dig into the food. Hahaha, Dad had even accidentally spilled wine over an entire plate of pancit while he was telling us (for the nth time) the story of how much wine he had ordered during one plane trip to Jeddah.

Tuesday, January 2, 2008

New Year's Day was my turn. Tad and I left for Fairview for his family's annual reunion. My goodness, the supposedly long trip was pretty quick during the morning because the driver of the FX we were riding was acting as if he was the king of the road from Taft Avenue to Fairview. We went to his Tita Amy's house first, then while the rest of the family piled up in the car, Tad and I walked with Tita Amy to his Tita Vicky's house a couple of blocks away. Holy kamote, we had only arrived after 5 minutes and I was already overwhelmed by the number of people inside the house, hahaha. And then when it was time for lunch, it was as if every inch of the kitchen had food. Tad and I were holding two plates each, hahaha!

Spent most of the afternoon in the garage with Tad and his cousins, just talking and joking around over drinks. The food still kept coming, and it felt that we were eating the whole day until the evening. I was slightly buzzed from the drinks, but good thing I was mostly sitting down. But of course, I slept during the entire ride home, ahehehe.

I had dropped by EJ's callback auditions yesterday evening. Hahaha, I listened to several renditions of The Dawn's "Salamat," outside the MKP and chuckled along with the callback auditionees as we listened to everyone else. It was great to see Gino again! Superfriends that we are, I was always there during his auditions in TP that he had passed. See you at the auditions for new AC scholars, dear! Hahaha!

Was greeted with annoyance late this morning when I found out some news is being passed around about me. Jeez, if you want to gossip, get your facts straight, please? I had never said anything bad about you, and it pisses me off is that you're spreading something about me that's not even true. And to think that you're family, for goodness sake. Damn it.

Hay. God bless you na lang.
